Starting A Diet and Weight Management Journey

We know that food intake is a foundation of our health and well-being. What we eat directly affects our overall health. Many people have misconceptions about dieting. A diet doesn't necessarily mean depriving ourselves of delicious food. Supplies of nutrients such as minerals, vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates, and fats are important for our bodies to function.

I have friends who work in a hospital, They're good nutritionists and qualified ones. They provide personalized guidance and support to help us achieve our dietary goals. I think consulting a nutritionist is a wise way to take control of dietary intake.

I also consulted with my doctor, an expert in the health sector, dr. Anita Asmara, M.Ikom, she explained about diet based on the Science of Nutrition, Food, and Dietetics, diet is not just a prohibition on food, but a broader emphasis on regulating individual eating patterns regarding the types of food and the amount of ingredients that are allowed, limited, avoided and what is not allowed as well as the frequency and meal time.

A healthy diet is about:

  • Balance: Consuming a variety of foods in appropriate proportions.
  • Moderation: Enjoying the foods in moderation rather than overindulging.
  • Nutrients: Prioritizing nutrient-dense foods that provide essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber.
Here's why consulting a nutritionist and doctor can be beneficial for me, I can get personalized meal plans, addressing specific concern whether I'm looking to lose weight, manage health condition, or improve overall nutrition. They offer guidance and encouragement towards my goal.

So, I can still enjoy delicious food while on a healthy diet. The key is to make smart choices and find ways to make your favorite dishes healthier. For me starting a diet and weight loss management journey can be exciting and rewarding.

Based on my experience, if you want to start a diet and weight management, here are some key steps:

  • Consult with a healthcare professional
Before making significant changes to your diet or exercise routine, it's essential to consult with a doctor or registered dietitian. They can provide personalized advice based on your health and goals.
  • Set realistic goals
Instead of aiming for drastic weight loss, focus on setting achievable goals. This could be losing a certain amount of weight per week, increasing your physical activity, or improving your overall health.
  • Create a balanced diet
A balanced diet should include plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Avoid processed foods, sugary drinks, and excessive amounts of unhealthy fats.
  • Stay hydrated
Drinking enough water throughout the day is crucial for weight management and overall health. Aim for at least 8 glasses of water per day.
  • Regular exercise
Incorporate regular physical activity into your routine. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise most days of the week.
  • Mindful eating
Pay attention to your hunger and fullness cues. Eat slowly and savor your food, avoiding distractions like TV or phones.
  • Track your progress
Keep a food journal or use a calorie-tracking app to monitor your intake. This can help you stay accountable and make informed choices.
  • Manage stress
Stress can contribute to weight gain. Find healthy ways to manage stress, such as meditation, yoga, or spending time in nature.
  • Be Patient and persistent
Remember, lasting weight management takes time and effort. Don't get discouraged by setbacks. Stay patient and persistent, and you'll achieve your goals.

For me, nutrients are essential for overall health. A balanced diet is crucial for weight management. It's important to remember that sustainable weight loss is often achieved through a combination of both dietary changes and exercise. Weight loss is a journey that requires a combination of healthy eating and regular physical activity. This dietary arrangement will be different for each person because it depends on physical and clinical conditions, age, height, weight, food preferences and allergies, results of laboratory examinations or medical check-ups and individual socioeconomic conditions.

You can use weight loss calculator to estimate how much you will need to change your diet and exercise routine in order to reach your weight loss goals. The point is that a diet is not only for those who want to lose weight, but the diet for each person depends on their individual conditions.
